Act 1, Scene 1
The three witches appear on a heath and make plans to meet Macbeth. They declare, "Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air" (1.1.10-11).
Act 1, Scene 5
Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth about the witches' prophecy. She declares, "Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty!" (1.5.39-42)
Act 2, Scene 2
Macbeth murders King Duncan in his sleep. He later confesses, "I have done the deed" (2.2.14).
Act 3, Scene 4
The ghost of Banquo appears at a banquet hosted by Macbeth. Macbeth says, "Thou canst not say I did it: never shake Thy gory locks at me" (3.4.51-52).
Act 5, Scene 5
Macbeth learns that Lady Macbeth has died. He reflects, "Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day to day, To the last syllable of recorded time; And all our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death" (5.5.19-23).
